Standard I-Objective 1 Energy flow in ecosystems

Standard
I:
Students will understand that living organisms interact with
one another and their environment.
Objective
1:
Summarize how energy flows through an ecosystem.

Enduring Understanding: Ecosystems are shaped by interactions among living organisms and their physical environment. A food chain shows the energy flow through organisms in an
environment. A food pyramid shows loss of energy in a food chain.

I Can Statements

  1. I can describe the energy levels in a food pyramid, starting from the bottom and describe types of organisms and comparative numbers found.
  2. I can determine which strategies are used by organisms to balance energy intake with expenditure.
  3. I can calculate the difference between the energy expended to find food and the energy in the food.
  4. I can compare the energy expended in food production in an industrialized country to a
    non-industrialized country.
