Standard IV-Objective 1 Compare Reproduction

Standard IV: Students will understand that genetic information coded in DNA is passed from parents to offspring by sexual and asexual reproduction. The basic structure of DNA is the same in all living things. Changes in DNA may alter genetic expression.
Objective 1:
Compare sexual and asexual reproduction.

Enduring Understanding:There are predictable patterns of inheritance. Sexual reproduction increases the genetic variation of a species. Asexual reproduction provides offspring that have the same genetic code as the parent. Changes in the DNA sequence may alter genetic expression.

I Can Statements

  1. I can identify sources of genetic variation in sexually reproducing organisms.
  2. I can compare and contrast sexual and asexual reproduction.
  3. I can describe how mutations positively and negatively affect a species.
  4. I can use methology to understand how bioethical decisions are made.
