Standard V-Objective 2 Evidence for Evolution

Standard V: Students will understand that biological diversity is a result of evolutionary processes.
Objective 2: Cite evidence for changes in populations over time and use concepts of evolution
to explain these changes.

Enduring Understanding: Concepts of evolution explain changes in populations over time. Science distinguishes itself from other ways of knowing and from other bodies of knowledge through the use of empirical standards, logical arguments, and skepticism, as science strives for explanations of the world.

Essential Questions

  1. What are three sources of evidence that support biological evolution?
  2. What role do mutation and recombination have in evolution?
  3. Describe important events in the development of the Theory of Evolution.
  4. Give an example of an observation and an inference that relate to evolution.
